Outpatient Facilities

Our outpatient department is newly renovated and family friendly with resources, including a clinical social worker, in-person translators, pharmacy support and an onsite dental clinic.

Our primary care clinic sees patients from the newborn period through 21 years of age. Residents care for panel of patients during their training – inheriting patients from the graduating residents as well as bringing patients from the inpatient services such as newborn nursery, wards and ICUs. Resident clinics vary by rotation – while on inpatient months, residents have about 2 clinics and on outpatient rotations about 4-6 clinics. Our primary care outpatient curriculum focuses on Bright Futures as well as a variety of common outpatient topics.

The outpatient rotation (approximately 4 weeks per year) is an opportunity to experience the various subspecialty clinics and participate in community outreach projects.

The internationally acclaimed Center for the Vulnerable Child Program (VIP) is a referral unit for victims of suspected child abuse and neglect.  VIP has expanded clinical services to include the Adolescent Care and Transition Clinic (ACT) which assists the transition of teenage patients with chronic medical problems from pediatric to adult services and the Alexis Project, a clinic for LGBTQ+ teens and young adults.

Our unique maternal-child HIV program provides family centered full spectrum primary and infectious disease care to patients and families affected by HIV.

The Breathmobile program, the first of its type in the nation, provides preventive asthma care and education at Los Angeles Unified School District schools via a mobile clinic.  This innovative model, which has been replicated throughout the nation, is statistically proven to decrease emergency department visits and hospital admissions due to asthma.

The medical sciences campus also houses basic science and clinical research in which residents are encouraged to participate.
